About Us
How Apple Blossom Cattery Began
Apple Blossom Cattery was built by Greg and Diana White, on a field behind their own home, and opened its doors in May 2019. The pens were constructed by Pedigree Pens, the national market leader in cattery building, but the business — the standards, the reputation, the friendships — Greg and Di built themselves, from the ground up.
Who We Are
We were among their first customers. We started boarding our own cats here in June 2019, barely a month after the cattery opened, and after years of trying different catteries and never quite settling on one we trusted, that was that. From the moment we set foot in Apple Blossom we used nowhere else. So when Greg and Di decided to retire, and asked whether we'd like to take it on, there was only ever one answer — we couldn't see ourselves taking over anywhere else.
We are Laura and Rhys. We have two girls, Phoebe (8) and Pippa (5), and five cats of our own, who between them cover most of the cat-owning experience going: Gus, our ragdoll; Maddie, a maine coon; Figgy, a Norwegian Forest Cat crossed with Siberian; and Cosmo and Kramer, two moggies who would like it noted that pedigree is overrated. So we know what it is to leave a cat you love in someone else's hands and want, more than anything, to come home to find them happy.
Both of us hold International Cat Care accredited qualifications, and we are joined during the week by Charmaine, a qualified veterinary nurse with substantial clinical experience, who helps with cat care and the day-to-day running of the cattery. Between us, there is very little a cat can present with that we haven't seen.
We are enormously grateful to Greg and Di for trusting us with something they built and clearly loved — and with their customers, so many of whom became their friends, and most importantly with their customers' cats. We hope to be half as good at it as they were. If we manage that, Apple Blossom has a thriving future ahead of it.
What We Believe
We came to this as customers, not as a business plan, and that still shapes how we run it. The standard we hold ourselves to is a simple one: is this good enough for a cat of our own, and would it have reassured us back when we were the ones dropping a nervous cat off and driving away worrying. If the answer to either is no, it isn't good enough.
We also believe a good cattery has nothing to hide. We are a doors-open business — we welcome visits, viewings and inspections, and we would genuinely rather you came and looked than simply took our word for it. The cats can't tell you how they were looked after, so the least we can do is let you see for yourself.
And we are not here to reinvent something that already worked. Greg and Di built a cattery people trusted for seven years, and our job is to look after it — and your cats — at least as well as they did, not to put our own stamp on it for the sake of it.
Meeting You
We look forward to meeting you and your cats very soon — many of you we've already had the pleasure of meeting over the past few months.
